G. Marimuthu Dies at 58, Actors Tributes to Him

G. Marimuthu Was Rushed to the Hospital

While doing the dubbing for his television series Ethirneechal in Chennai on Friday morning, G. Marimuthu reportedly passed out at 8:30. According to a tweet from Johnson, a public relations specialist employed by the South’s film industry, he was taken to a neighboring hospital where doctors there declared him dead.

“Shocking… director-actor Marimuthu passed away now at 8.30 am. Due to cardiac arrest. RIP Marimuthu,” he tweeted. In another tweet, he said, “It has been confirmed that actor Marimuthu (58) who was dubbing for the Ethireneechel serial this morning suddenly fainted and was taken to the nearby Surya Hospital, where he died due to chest pain…”

Who was G. Marimuthu?

According to a report by One India, he not only directed movies but also acted in TV shows and contributed to more than 50 films. G. Marimuthu moved from Pasumalaitheri in Theni, where he was born, to Chennai in 1990 with the goal of becoming a film director.



Initially employed as a waiter in hotels, he soon met writer Vairamuthu and, according to the web, secured a position as Rajkiran’s assistant director on movies like Aranmanai Kili (1993) and Ellame En Rasathan (1995). As an assistant director, G. Marimuthu went on to work with notable directors like Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman, and SJ Surya. Additionally, he co-directed Silambarasan’s Manmadhan.

Marimuthu launched his filmmaking career in 2008 with the release of “Kannum Kannum.” In addition to directing movies, he also portrayed a number of intriguing roles in Tamil movies. At the beginning of his career, he worked alongside the lyricist Vairamuthu. He also worked as an assistant director for Tamil movies. His performances in “Vaali,” “Jeeva,” “Pariyerum Perumal,” and “Jailer,” to name a few, are memorable.
